Today's market movers come from Newcastle, Exeter and Southwell.
Alarm bells have been ringing in the market this morning concerning the chance of Lucky Sunny in the opener at Newcastle (14:20). Forecast odds-on in the morning newspapers, this 8yo has traded between 2.38 and a current price of 3.1. While there is no great strength in depth in this race, backers have been keener to side with Jukebox melody and Next To Nowhere.
When a horse hasn't won for 1,000 days despite regular outings and tumbling down the weights the one thing you like to see is a bit of confidence in the betting market. So, Beckermet catches the eye in the 16:10 at Southwell, having halved in price from a high of 22.0 in to 11.0. Beckermet is nine-years-old and will never recapture his glory days as a triple winner of Listed sprints but despite a further 3lb fall in the weights, he is still topweight for this 6f h'cap. The opposition is not that strong, and this rates a speculative back.
Glitzy D'Ocala is the obvious choice for the 16:30 at Exeter, having had a sighter over 2miles 4 and now stepping up to a trip that should play to his strengths. He has already won at the course on today's ground, but that was a bumper so he gets a nice little weight concession from his nearest market rivals. Backers look sure to keep this one strong in the market; he's currently trading at 2.12 after early bargains around 2.62.
