Best Bets, Tottenham v AC Milan - Champions League Betting

The first leg was an ill-tempered affair that saw Gennaro Gattuso lose his cool and subsequently receive a heavy suspension. At the end of it all Spurs emerged victorious and they should make it through but what are the best bets ahead of the second leg?

Match Odds

It's difficult to oppose a Tottenham side who has a 100% record at White Hart Lane in this year's competition. Milan have the best away record in Serie A, but that counts for little considering Spurs are arguably better than any of the opposition the Rossoneri have faced in Italy this season.

Milan's recent record on English soil is also poor: they've failed to win on their last six visits. At 2.26, Spurs will attract plenty of interest but I'm always slightly concerned about backing sides when a draw 3.6 would be enough to see them through.

To limit potential losses, I prefer the option of backing Tottenham -0&-0.5 Asian handicap at 1.9. That way, you'll lose only half your stakes should the game end in a draw, and make a profit if Spurs win on the night.

Under / Overs

The contrasting goals stats of these two sides rules out a firm opinion.

Tottenham are the competition's second highest scorers (19 goals), have averaged 2.71 goals a game and scored at least three times in each of their home fixtures. Based purely on their stats, over 2.5 goals at 1.96 would be a strong selection.

Milan's games are considerably lower-scoring, however: they have averaged only a goal a game and, with seven goals in total, are the competitions joint-lowest scorers (with Manchester United). Six of their seven matches, including all three away games, have had under 2.5 goals.
It's little surprise under 2.5 goals is 2.00. Neither price is big enough to warrant investment.
Sending Off?

The bad blood from the first leg (fans will remember Gennaro Gattuso's touchline clash with Spurs assistant manager Joe Jordan) makes the Sending Off? market interesting. Tottenham have already picked up two red cards in the competition, and Milan have averaged nearly three yellow cards a game.

In the circumstances, the 4.2 available on a red card is worth a small investment.

Best Bet: Tottenham -0&-0.5 Asian handicap @ 1.9
Other Recommended Bet: 'Yes' in Sending Off? market @ 4.2
